Peter Dowgailenko was born in Belgium and came to Canada as a child with his family. He grew up in Montreal and spent many weekends wandering through the various art galleries developing and building on his interest in art. His early inspirations were the French masters and subsequently the Canadian Group of Seven. He has always enjoyed painting and throughout his financial career he has maintained a strong interest in art. Although largely self-taught, he continues to attend workshops each year to explore the many facets of his passion for art. He has studied with painters in Ontario Alberta and British Columbia. The incredible and varied landscape in and around Victoria and Vancouver Island provide him with immense and continuing inspiration. He can often be seen in and around Victoria doing plein air paintings for the love of it.
